Andrew Lodowski – Managing Director
Andrew started work in the trade in 1976. This was an apprenticeship with a ship builder who exported wooden steam boats to Canada and then progressed onto training in a hardwood timber yard. Studying at High Wycombe College for the Institute of Wood Science put Andrew in good stead for setting up his own timber business buying and selling round logs in the U.K. With this background sawmilling started and he began to dedicate his time to this part of the trade and has progressed this ever since.

Rupert Schofield – Purchasing Director
Rupert joined Andrew at the age of 17 in 1985 and has worked closely with him ever since. He maintained high standards in purchasing and now travels all over Europe ensuring that everything that arrives with Associated Timber Services has been inspected so that their deliveries fulfil quality and environmental standards.

Ian Hipkin
Joining the hardwood trade in 1970 Ian gained experience in timber identification, handling, drying and selection. He also studied and qualified as an Associate of the Institute of Wood Science. He spent several years in a busy importers general office then progressed to represent the company as a field saleman in 1984. He became Sales Manager for a long established importer in 1990, moved to purchasing in 1994 and followed by an appointment to the Board of Directors in 1995.
Working closely with the parent company of a large American sawmilling group provided Ian with a much broader understanding of American lumber production, grading and markets, adding to his extensive knowledge of tropical hardwoods.

In 2008 he joined our Company having had close associations with us for more than ten years. He is looking forward to building good connections with our existing clients and new customers whether the are large multinationals or specific artisan woodworkers.

John Alderson
John spent his 1st five years as an apprentice prototype bodymaker in the car industry in Coventry, building full scale wooden models of future motorcars. During this time he gained City & Guilds qualifications including technical drawing and followed this by completing a forestry course. He worked as a sub-contractor to national timber marketing companies harvesting hardwoods and progressed into sawmilling and kilning. He has spent the last 30 years procuring, grading and trading hardwoods, both temperate and tropical. John has worked with Andrew since the early 1980’s and joined the ATS team 13 years ago.

Rob Alderson
Being the son of John, Rob grew up around the timber trade and first started work for Associated Timber Services in September 1998 having the task of waxing the end of London plane logs before being loaded into containers destined for China. Shortly afterwards he starting doing deliveries, progressing into being based in the sawmill office and being trained in house by Andrew, Rupert and John in all the English and European hardwoods in stock and the grades. This then developed into taking orders, selecting orders and deliveries to customers and when the Company moved to the current premises had the task of unloading the stock and arranging it in the warehouses. He became responsible for yard duties and training of yard staff and he is now proud to be General Manager to the company and enjoys seeing the company go from strength to strength.
